KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • With the supervision of classroom teachers, assisting teachers in each Childcare classroom to perform general supervision and care of a classroom, interact with the children to provide support, watch safety of the children.
  • Assist teachers in the planning and preparing activities that encourage children's creativity and learning, and promote each child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
  • Role models appropriate behaviours and attitudes, supporting the mission of The Learning Corner Childcare Centre.
  • Learning and assisting teachers to safely escort children to and from school, and on trips or walks outside the centre.
  • Participate in special events put on by the Childcare Centre.
  • Assist with facility cleanliness, toy/equipment disinfecting and organization.
  • Ensure that all information about children, families, staff, visitors, and volunteers are strictly confidential; and that activity records and statistics are stored in a secure location.
  • Attend and participate actively as required. Learning and performing other duties and skills as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position is a temporary full-time position based on 35 hours per week for 8 weeks.
  • The shifts will be 7.5 hours per day which includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Ability to lift/carry children, stand for extended periods of time and work at the height of children.

Normal location of work is: 3199 Lauzon Road, Windsor

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
    • Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of the employment.
    • Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*: and,
    • Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
    • *International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Completed High School

  • Physical coordination and agility in order to lead games and activities for children.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement.
  • Self-motivated/disciplined.
  • Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible.
  • Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
