Your Opportunity

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Lead groups of campers while exploring CH Parks, trails, and activities, creating fun and adventure in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Ensure that campers are active, engaged, having fun, and learning something new!
  • Provide campers with an unforgettable experience, fostering friendships, and creating lifelong memories.
  • Ensure a safe environment, promoting best practices for the well-being of campers and other staff members
  • Provide ongoing feedback, verbal and written, to parents concerning their child's camp experience.
  • Provide leadership & education at facilities (or during activities) which require specialized knowledge or training. (Biking, Climbing, etc.)
    • Includes supervision of campers in and around the waterfront (with support of Waterfront Lifeguard team)
  • Bus Monitor duties to provide supervision of campers on bus routes to and from camp, and between CH sites. *We ask that all WOW Counsellors commit to a minimum of 1 week of Bus Monitor Duties. Additional weeks may available upon request
  • Cleaning/Sanitization of supplies and equipment
  • Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton's Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals
  • Other duties as assigned

Your Qualifications

  • Must be 16 years of age or older at the time of employment
  • Strong creativity, leadership, communication, and collaboration skills required for mentorship of other staff and campers; along with the ability to reinforce rules/policies when needed
  • Previous experience working in a summer camp setting or as a Counsellor in Training (C.I.T) is considered an asset
  • Post-secondary education, specialized training, or certification in activities or facilities relating to Recreation program activities is considered an asset:
    • Wilderness First Responder
    • PMBI - Mountain Bike Instructor L1, 2, or 3
    • ACCT Accredited Level 1, 2, or 3 Challenge Course Cert.
    • Paddle Canada certifications (canoe / kayak)
    • Previous experience working with, educating or supervising children
  • Prior experience or skill with any of the following activities is considered an asset:
    • Archery, Biking, Boating, Teambuilding / Challenge Course use, Outdoor Education (i.e., survival skills), Work or experience with Birds of Prey (Raptor Camp)
  • Ability to travel to work site not serviced by public transportation
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to swim independently is required.
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of/obtain Standard First Aid and CPR certification prior to first day of employment
  • Successful candidates are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS), to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (if over 18 years old). *Cost covered by Conservation Halton up to $30.00.

    • Availability to work Monday - Friday for shifts approximately between 8:00am - 4:30pm (times may vary)
