Description

The Playground Leader will be a member of The Salvation Army's Summer Ministry Team. In this role, they will be responsible to organize and facilitate our summer park program that aims to connect and engage with children impacted by low-income and other vulnerable situations, offering them quality programming that teaches, mentors, uplifts, and empowers. Our program will strengthen relationships and provide support to families in our area, while providing safe, healthy and fun activity for their children in the summer months.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organize, lead and participate in various activities and life-skills/lessons (recreational, educational, athletic, arts & crafts, etc.) for children in a playground setting
  • Provide intentional mentoring opportunities, build rapport and create a positive and safe experience for each child
  • Implement structured activities and care, that promote the social and emotional well being of each child, using effective communication and conflict resolution skills with children, parents and team members.
  • Arrange for and maintain controls over equipment and supplies needed for program
  • Direct volunteers and other team members, assisting to maintain discipline and safety on playground
  • Assist in completing attendance, incident forms and other reports as needed
  • Connect with families and assist in promotion of program
  • Promote a safe and inclusive environment for all
  • Liase with other community organizations when required
  • Represent organizational values and assist in linking children and families to other help programs and community resources
  • Assist with other summer outreach-related opportunities when required

Position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs Employment program.

To be eligible, candidates must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Criminal Record Check
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Experience with Children: Previous experience working with children in a camp, school, or recreational setting is valuable.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills are essential for interacting with children, parents, and other staff members.

  • Punctuality and Reliability
  • Driver’s license is an asset

WORKING CONDITIONS: Full Time - 35 hours per week. 8 week contract position
