Summer Bike Mechanic
Big White Ski Resort – Kelowna, BC Seasonal: June – September
The Role
Big White Ski Resort is seeking qualified, high-level Mountain Bike Mechanics for the upcoming summer season. Operating out of the Village Centre Mall, our mechanics are responsible for maintaining a premium rental fleet and providing expert service to guests visiting our world-class bike park.
The ideal candidate possesses a deep technical understanding of modern mountain bike platforms and thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume shop environment. Efficiency, precision, and a commitment to safety are the cornerstones of this role.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Technical Service: Perform expert repairs and preventative maintenance on both customer-owned and resort-owned rental mountain bikes.
- System Diagnostics: High-level troubleshooting and service of hydraulic brake systems, complex drivetrains, and suspension components.
- Shop Operations: Maintain a safe, organized, and professional workspace in accordance with strict workplace safety and "clean shop" standards.
- Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of all service work and maintenance logs in compliance with company and manufacturer standards.
- Guest Engagement: Provide exceptional customer service at the tech counter, including repair assessments, parts sales, and technical advice.
- Inventory Management: Assist in tracking shop supplies, spare parts inventory, and notifying management of stock requirements.
- Financial Accuracy: Professional handling of point-of-sale transactions and daily cash balancing.
Required Qualifications
- Professional Experience: Minimum of two years (preferred) as a bike mechanic in a high-volume shop environment.
- Specialized Knowledge: Proven proficiency with hydraulic systems (bleed procedures), suspension service (seals/lowers), and wheel-building/truing.
- Tool Proficiency: Expert-level command of bike-specific hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication skills and a professional, approachable demeanor when interacting with guests and team members.
- Operational Excellence: Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to manage multiple repair tickets under tight deadlines.
- Adaptability: Must be a dependable team player capable of maintaining patience and a positive attitude during peak periods.
Location & Duration
- Location: Village Centre Mall, Big White Ski Resort, BC.
- Term: Full-time seasonal roles from early June through September.
- Wages: $22-$24 per hour
