The Pacific National Exhibition is an iconic institution in BC, famous for bringing generations of people together to celebrate and build memories. This 116-year-old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of over $70 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams: the 15 day annual summer Fair which averages more than 700,000 people annually, Playland amusement park which welcomes 400,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, and a busy year-round portfolio of events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events. In total we bring over 2 million people through the site each year. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance. We are looking for a collaborative self-starter to take on the role of Event Duty Manager; Playland. The Event Duty Manager; Playland will be responsible for executing operational deliverables for Playland amusement park. This individual will work closely with many departments within the organization to ensure a seamless experience for Playland guests and team.

What will you do this Summer?
In your role as the Event D****uty Manager; Playland, your primary accountabilities will be to:

  • Support departments and guests in the daily operations of Playland amusement park
  • Ensure all operational plans are followed on event days.
  • Act as the Playland representative on operational days by supporting department and guest experience.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures with respect to health and safety, alcohol management, customer service, and labour management
  • Deliver Playland opening, closing duties, operational planning and internal communication
  • Provide detailed information on event related issues (event reporting) and conduct post-event debrief sessions and analysis if needed/
  • Play a key role in ensuring a highly motivated and knowledgeable team of staff demonstrate a positive and can-do attitude, and lead by example/
  • Work together with other members of the team in the event of an emergency.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

What else?

  • Must have 1-3 years of experience in the events, sports, attraction or comparable industry navigating large groups of people.
  • Diploma, Certificate or degree in Event Management, Business Administration or a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education & experience is considered an asset.
  • Must be able to work an event-based work schedule which includes weekends, nights, extended hours, and extended workweeks.
  • Experience working with crowds or large groups of people considered an asset.
  • Must possess good decision-making and communication skills with the ability to react well to high-pressure situations and tight timelines.
  • Always conduct oneself in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check

Additional Information

The PNE's compensation offerings are in alignment with a pay-for-performance pay philosophy that recognizes individual, and teamwork performance. The role is a seasonal, contract position with a typical hourly range of $22 - $24 per hour. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, experience, and internal pay structures. As a part of the PNE's total compensation package, this position may be eligible for other benefits subject to program eligibility requirements.
