Summer Maintenance Worker

BGC Big Brothers Big Sisters is seeking individuals interested in the following position(s):

Competition Number: SMW0526 - Summer Maintenance Worker

Position(s) Available: 1

Status: Temporary 8-week summer position, with contract dates of June 22- August 21, 2026. Positions are full time 37.5 hours per week

Salary Range: $22.48/hour

The key responsibilities of this position will include:

Basic Repairs and Upkeep

  • Safely perform preventative and corrective maintenance to the agency’s buildings and facilities including, but not limited to:
    • Cleaning drains and gutters
    • Washing windows and pressure washing building exterior
    • Cleaning or replacing furnace filters
    • Loading rubbish, garbage, furniture or debris for disposal at the dump
    • Minor carpentry, drywall repair and painting
    • Moving heavy furniture, equipment and supplies
    • Building and transporting office equipment

Yard Maintenance

  • Provide overall basic yard maintenance duties at each agency facility including, but not limited to:

  • Lawn mowing and trimming

  • Tree and shrub trimming

  • Weed control including pulling and using treatments

  • Planting

The successful candidate will have:

  • A high school diploma. Post-secondary education in progress is an asset.
  • 1-2 years’ maintenance experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required.
  • Willingness and physical stamina to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry 20lbs
  • Ability to work on a ladder at height
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability and knowledge to operate basic power tools and yard maintenance equipment. Proven practical and safety-oriented problem-solving skills.
  • Personal attributes include effective verbal communication and active listening skills, time management, and respect for cultural diversity.
  • A clear Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check completed within the last 6 months.
  • Must meet all Canada Summer Job funding requirements to be eligible for these positions.
  • Confirmed availability from June 22- August 21, 2026, Monday to Fridays from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
