Main Purpose and FunctionThis is child care work in implementing and leading a variety of activities for children participating in a 3-5 group childcare program. An employee of this class is involved in delivering activities which will promote child development and learning. An employee of this class also provides assistance to a superior in planning programs and activities and in carrying out administrative details. Independent judgment is exercised in dealing with routine matters and minor problems. Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Delivers a variety of experiences and activities for children based on developmental needs and the principles of the BC Early Learning Framework, including engagement with a Pedagogist and Atelierista, inquiry-based curriculum, and pedagogical narration practices. Assists in the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of programs and activities that promote the care, learning, and well-being of all children. Assists in providing orientation, training, and work direction to auxiliary staff, students, and volunteers. Communicates with families regarding their child’s development and experiences; provides guidance and support as appropriate; and participates in family engagement and fundraising events. Assists in identifying and supporting the individual needs of children, collaborates with team members to access resources and supports, and implements prescribed routines and adaptive equipment as required. As directed, liaises with external agencies and professionals, including social workers, public health nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other consultants. Maintains records and documentation related to program operations; assists in preparing newsletters and program communications; and recommends the acquisition of materials and equipment. Adheres to all applicable legislation, licensing requirements, collective agreements, and organizational policies and procedures.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
Early Childhood Education or Responsible Adult certification Food Safe Current Child Care First Aid Certificate Previous experience in an Out of School Care Program or similar children’s recreation program
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Sound knowledge of BC Child Care Licensing Regulations and organizational policies and procedures. Working knowledge practices and objectives of a licensed community care program. Working knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, staff and a variety of external contacts such as social workers and therapists. Ability to provide training and work direction to auxiliary, students and volunteers. Ability to work in an inclusive program that meets the needs of individual children. Sound understanding of the BC Child Care Licensing Regulations. Some knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Passion and commitment for ongoing professional development and growth Able to work split shifts 7:30 – 9:00 am and 2:00 – 6:00 pm Able to work 7 hours per day, between the hours of 7:30 – 6:00 pm, during summer, school breaks and school professional development days.
