Role: Shop Assistant – Summer Student

Role Overview
Join Spearhead for the summer as a Shop Assistant! This entry-level position offers hands-on experience in a high-end manufacturing environment. You'll learn about shop operations while helping keep our workspace organized and efficient. Full on-the-job training will be provided - we just need an enthusiastic student ready to learn and contribute to our team.
This is a full-time summer position based in our fabrication shop.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Learn about shop equipment and tools under supervision of experienced staff
- Help maintain a clean and organized workshop environment
- Assist with basic inventory management and supply organization
- Support the team by delivering materials and tools where needed
- Learn about safety protocols and help ensure they're followed
- Observe and assist with simple fabrication processes
- Help keep the yard organized and maintained
- Participate in team meetings to learn about manufacturing processes
- Assist with basic documentation and record-keeping
- Support the shop team with various tasks as needed

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Attributes
- Currently enrolled high school student or newly graduated with an interest in manufacturing, woodworking, or trades
- Enthusiasm for learning about workshop operations and tools
- Strong focus on safety awareness
- Good organizational abilities
- Team player with a positive attitude
- Reliable and punctual
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions
No prior shop experience required - just bring your enthusiasm and readiness to learn! This position offers valuable hands-on experience in a professional manufacturing environment while developing transferable skills in organization, teamwork, and attention to detail.
Schedule and Working Conditions
- Ability to work 7:30-5:15, Monday – Thursday, and every second Friday from 7:30-4:00, with a 20-minute paid coffee break and a 40-minute lunch each day
- Ability to work on-site at Spearhead headquarters
- Manual dexterity to operate a variety of tools on a regular basis
- Ability to stand and move around the fabrication shop for work shifts
- Ability to work in a workshop with exposure to dust, chemicals, and noise using required PPE, as needed
- Ability to move and carry materials up to 30 lbs on a regular basis
Compensation
- Pay rate is $22 per hour
- 6% Vacation Pay
