Our Recreation Department is looking for a dedicated Permanent Full Time Senior Lifeguard to join the team. Position Responsibilities The Head Lifeguard is responsible for lifeguarding, instructing aquatic programs, and mentoring staff, while ensuring the safety and well-being of patrons through education and training. This role involves performing rescues and first aid as needed, and maintaining a safe, efficient operation of the aquatic area by adhering to established procedures. This position's primary focus is to mentor and support Aquatics department staff, requiring strong leadership skills, experience, and training to recertify, guide, orient, and motivate team members. The Head Lifeguard will also step into a Crew Chief role as required and proactively address potential issues before they escalate. In addition to collaborating with CUPE staff and facility operations, the Head Lifeguard will report to and carry out direction from the Aquatic Supervisor and Management team. They will stay informed on industry trends and community needs, ensuring services are delivered effectively with a well-trained and fully staffed aquatic team. Qualifications 18 years of age Ability to respond to emergencies and deescalate situations. Current LSI, LI, NL, FA or equivalent Ability to adapt and work within changing situations. Advanced Training (i.e: NLI, LIT, IFAI, Pool Operator, etc.) Ability to apply innovative thinking to problem-solving. Leadership Experience Ability to apply innovative thinking to problem-solving. Basic computer knowledge Ability to work shift work, including evenings and weekends. Ability to make decisions and select a course of action. Must be reliable and punctual. Effective communication skills. Clean criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check is required. Ability to work well with others. Hours The standard workweek consists of an average of 40 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor. Compensation Starting salary $36.56 per hour as per the CUPE Collective Agreement. Benefits Comprehensive benefits package.
