Our Recreation Department is looking for a dedicated Junior Lifeguard to join the team. Position Responsibilities The Junior Lifeguard is responsible for the active supervision of the aquatic area, ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons through prevention, education, and responsive action. This role supports the efficient and safe daily operation of the aquatic environment while promoting a positive and inclusive experience for all facility users. Supervising the aquatic area to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all patrons. Monitoring patron activity and enforcing safety rules through proactive communication and education. Performing rescues and administering first aid when required, following established emergency response protocols. Responding to emergency situations quickly and effectively to minimize risk and ensure patron safety. Using sound judgment to deescalate challenging or high-stress situations in a calm and professional manner Promoting water safety through effective communication with patrons and modeling safe behaviors. Following and applying safe work practices to ensure the safety of staff and the public Supporting event operations, including setup and take-down of equipment as needed Providing exceptional customer service and contributing to a positive public experience Qualifications Demonstrated ability to respond effectively in emergency situations and adapt to changing environments Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, including the ability to deescalate conflicts when necessary Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced, public-facing environment Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard (NLS) certification Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification Basic proficiency in computer use, including familiarity with scheduling or communication tools Excellent verbal communication skills and a commitment to customer service excellence Dependable and punctual, with a strong sense of responsibility and professionalism Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening Hours The standard workweek consists of an average of 20-35 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor. Compensation Starting salary $24.06 per hour as per the CUPE Collective Agreement. Benefits Comprehensive benefits package.
