Lifeguards are responsible for providing guests with an exceptional experience while ensuring safe and proper usage of the facilities, injury prevention and emergency situation management through pro-active use of incident prevention and public relations skills, active pool supervision, effective teamwork and superior communication. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervising all aquatic areas of the World Waterpark, including a 2000 person capacity wave pool. Assisting guests in the safe and proper use of World Waterpark attractions. Responding to minor and major first aid situations and following health, safety and emergency procedures. Responding to distressed or drowning swimmers. Providing exceptional guest service, assisting guests with questions or concerns regarding the facility and waterslides and having a sound knowledge of West Edmonton Mall. Assisting with cleaning the pool, pool areas, slides and staff areas as required. Acting as a role model for other staff. Other responsibilities as required. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must have current Standard First Aid or Aquatic Emergency Care, National Lifeguard Pool and Oxygen Administration. National Lifeguard Water Park will be obtained after hire. Possess the desire to obtain Lifeguard Fitness Skills, Oxygen Therapy, and advanced aquatic certifications. Must be safety minded and have an interest in aquatics. Must be people oriented and have excellent communication skills that include speaking, writing, reading and understanding of the English language. Outgoing and personable, with a commitment to excellence in public relations. Strong leadership skills and the ability to work in a fast paced dynamic team environment. Must have previous guest service experience and excellent written and interpersonal skills. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Upon a successful in-person interview, candidates will be invited to participate in a water skill test held on October 10th. All successful applicants must hold a National Lifeguard (NL) Waterpark certification. Applicants who do not currently have their NL Waterpark certification or Oxygen Administration certification will have the opportunity to obtain it through a course being offered on October 11th and 12th. Successful applicants will be required to complete the NL Waterpark certification if they do not already possess it. All applicants must be a minimum age of 16. This is a part-time position that requires flexible availability Monday through Sunday including days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
