The Recreation department has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Lifeguard/Swim Instructor at Meadow Park Sports Centre. Reporting to the Aquatics Recreation Programmer, this casual position offers a schedule of up to 80 hours bi-weekly during the sport centre operational hours of 6am to 9pm, including weekends. The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor’s main responsibilities include safety supervision of the pool area; swim instruction for all ages; administration of first aid for the sports centre; completion of basic maintenance tasks in the pool area; and the delivery of positive sports centre guest service. Lifeguard/Swim Instructors will also assist with the opening and closing of the pool facilities. Qualified candidates are fully certified and qualified Lifeguard/Swim Instructors with current NL (pool), Swim For Life Swim Instructor, First Aid, and CPR-C certifications. AMOA, BLS, NLI, Swim Trainer and LSIT qualifications are considered assets. Candidates must have some knowledge of aquatic-related policy and procedures, water safety and first aid, and demonstrate skills in communication for effective instruction, lifeguarding and judgment for quick decision-making. The successful candidate is customer service focused with a professional, approachable and helpful demeanor, can handle multiple tasks, and is committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace while contributing to a positive team environment. The starting wage for this position is $28.53 an hour. In addition to the hourly wage, casual employees at the RMOW receive 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of employee benefits. As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to beginning employment.
