Diabetes Nurse Educator

BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre - $42.25 to $51.78 per hour

Diabetes Perinatal Clinical Nurse Educator at BC Women's Hospital acts as expert clinical resource to nursing and other staff in the provision of patient care and identifies learning needs and develops/plans education material/courses.

What you will do:

  • Provide patient care to patients diagnosed with diabetes in pregnancy or requiring pre-conceptual counselling.
  • Assist the Program Director in the monitoring and assessment of nursing care, ensuring standards of practice are met.
  • Evaluate care given via direct observation; review/audit of relevant patient documentation; consultation with co-workers and other health care professionals; and interviews with patients and families.
  • Educate, counsel, and provide clinical expertise to health professionals and patients in the initiation, management and adjustment of insulin within CRNBC’s nursing scope of practice and with C&W / BCCH certification for insulin dose adjustment and according to CDA Clinical Practice Guidelines and Standards for Diabetes Education.

What you bring:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
  • Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), IDA Certification or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Relevant preparation in Maternal Child Health/Diabetes
  • Three (3) years' recent clinical nursing experience in the speciality including one (1) year in an educational or leadership role or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • CPR Training: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) – Level 1
